Are you looking to experience some of the local flavors of South Carolina on your visit to Kiawah Island? We suggest you take a short trip down the road to taste some locally-made libations at Deep Water Vineyards, and their neighbor, Firefly Distillery.
Low Country Vineyards
Deep Water Vineyard hosts a "Weekend Wine Down" with an incredible selection of wine, live music and food. The vineyard is open all weekend, however on Saturdays from noon until 4:00 p.m. the vineyard hosts the 'Wine Down' to help you unwind with low country's famous wine, music, and good company. The relaxing event attracts both visitors and locals alike to enjoy the tastings with food and local music. The tranquil surrounding will have you wanting to come back to bring your family and friends. All ages are welcome to enjoy the music and explore the vineyard, and guests often bring their dogs as well.
Start your taste with Low Tide, which is a semi-dry smooth white wine made from the Tara Scuppernong grape. Open your pallet to Magnolia, a sweeter white wine made from the Carlos Scuppernon grape. Next, switch it up with the Lowcountry Red, a nice dry red wine made with the Ison Muscadine grape which is fruity and fully flavored. The Muscadine grape is the only native American wine grape, so you'll be getting a true local taste that pairs well with low country fare. The High Tide, my personal favorite, is a light-bodied red wine made from the Noble grape that has a robust flavor and nose.
Come on out to Deep Water Vineyard where all are welcome to 'stomp on in' and explore the 48 acres of vineyard and breathtaking low country views. It's about the perfect Saturday to be enjoyed on your next Kiawah vacation!
Firefly Distillery
Best known for starting the Sweet Tea Vodka trend, Firefly Distillery is the Charleston area's longest operating distillery and features a beautiful tasting room on a quintessential low country property with mature trees dripping with Spanish moss. They've branched out with more flavored vodkas, moonshines, rums, bourbons, and liqueurs inspired by local Southern fare, which can be tried at their tasting room. Firefly also frequently hosts musical guests, food trucks, and can be rented for special events.
